It wasn’t that long ago that people were content with a roof over their head, food in the fridge and love in their life. But somewhere along the way that changed. We went from being thankful for a pair of jeans to needing a dozen of them. And soon a dozen wasn’t enough. We needed a mark of higher class with an imprinted label that society recognized as being ‘designer.’ Lets not stop at clothes though. Because there’s other things with so much worldly importance like houses, cars, phones and oh, don’t forget travel. I’m not pointing the finger. It’s easy to fall prey when the first thing we do every morning is reach for our phone, swipe up and see the perfect life everyone else is projecting. But truth be told, I’ve never seen a priest, a monk, or a prophet share their journey with such enthusiasm as many of us do. And I believe that’s because they’re present with what matters most, all the little things.
It’s easy to focus on what we want. Today make a list of what you have. Ask yourself, “Am I really justified in not being fully grateful and content?” If you have a roof over your head, food in the fridge and love in your life, I believe the answer is no. Always keep perspective.
